Hill Country Ride For AIDS - with poll

Mon Feb 18, 2008 at 03:26:33 PM PDT

So, it is that time of year again - time for me to be telling people about the best bike ride, with the best people in the world. This year will be the ninth year of the Ride. In nine years, our riders and volunteers have raised over 2.5 million dollars. Some ride to honor loved ones. Others ride to support friends and family living with AIDS. Some ride just to do something big to help our neighbors in need. All riders leave with an experience they will never forget -- and a bunch of new friends. More below the fold.

I always search for words to tell people about the Ride, but this year, thanks to Youtube, I don't have to work near as hard:

And there are several other clips at Youtube.

This ride is a beautiful experience every year. Sixty miles is a long way, but take my word for it, it really is fun. And they have training rides, so you can work your way up to doing it. So, if you live in the Austin area, please consider riding. And don't be afraid of the fundraising. My goal is to raise $2,000, because the cost for meds for 1 person for 1 month is $1,500. I figure raising 1 month's worth of meds, plus some for the food bank or the dental clinic is a good goal to have. I've always raised over $1,000 - this is a cause that people want to give to.

Oh, and I need any helmet &/or bike decorating ideas anyone has. Ideas that a non-crafty person can do. Last year's was pathetic, I just stuck some (admittedly pretty) Celtic-themed stickers on my helmet - knotwork, etc. I want to do better this year.

Here's the link to my page, and you can get to the main page from there.
