Poll workers needed for Tuesday (Austin)
Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 03:04:13 PM PDT
Ok, so you want to get out the vote for your candidate, of course you do - we all do. But if the people running the election don't have enough workers to run the election, then that literature you gave out with teh election day location will be wrong. They'll have to combine precincts, causing confusion, and some voters will be disenfranchised.
More below the fold.
I'm going to a book signing & I don't have my laptop with me, so I apologize for not replying to comments. But - they really, really need poll workers in Travis, and I assume other Texas counties. Here is an e-mail sent out by the Travis County Democratic Party:
Poll workers are needed to serve on Tuesday, March 4th. All poll workers to include Election Judges, Alternate Election Judges and Clerks must go through training provided by Travis Co. Elections.
Trainings are being held both day and evenings now through Saturday.
Pay is $7.00 an hour which is set by the office of the Texas Secretary of State.
Please phone Travis Co. Elections at 854 - 9552.
IMPORTANT:
If it turns out that by Sunday night, there are not enough poll workers signed up to work on Tuesday some polling locations may have to close and be combined with others which would create much confusion on Election Day for voting and Election Night for the precinct caucuses.
Please forward this email to everyone that you know.
If you don't need the money, you can sign your check over to the party, or donate it to your candidate. Put out literature this weekend & Monday. Be a poll worker on Tuesday, and you're still helping your candidate, even if you can't mention his or her name.
