Austin Kossacks - lots of stuff to do this weekend

I'm going to write about two great events this weekend, but I'm sure there are many more. Saturday at 1 PM, there's the kickoff for the Coordinated Campaign at Nuevo Leon Restaurant, 1501 East 6th Street. We have this great thing in Travis County - the Coordinated Campaign. You can go into one office, and help every Democrat in Travis County. You can pick up any- and everyone's literature, you can make calls from a central list - you can help everyone. Come to the kick off rally Saturday (wear sunscreen!) and hear all the great speeches, talk with your friends, and get fired up to win in November. (Meaning - figure out how much time you can spend and set up a schedule for volunteering)

Then on Sunday, there's Bruce Elfant's 16th annual Ice Cream Social. Since Bruce has no opponent, again, this year's beneficiary is the Do The Write Thing Challenge. As my invitation says, it teaches 7th & 8th graders how to deal with anger, bullying, and other conflicts in a constructive way, without resorting to violence. (Would that most of the Bush administration had had access to such a program) If you want to bring ice cream, home made & creative is the way to go -- and be creative with the name. The competition is really fierce for the best ice cream (my vote will go to something chocolate, I'm sure). So, if you have your grandmother's special ice cream recipe, or have an ice cream cookbook, like one friend I know, make up a batch of something good, give it a good name & bring it on down. 3 to 5 at the AFL-CIO Hall. Entry ranges from $5 for students, $15 for the rest of us, and sponsorships are available ($25 is Vanilla Bean, $50 is Very Strawberry, $100 is Butter Pecan, $250 is Cookies N Cream, $500 is Double Chocolate Chunk)
