Fitness Monday - Nutrition, with linky goodness

Mon Jun 02, 2008 at 08:15:11 AM PDT

So, being a person of size, trying to lose weight, I read a lot on the topic of nutrition. But I'm no expert, just someone who reads a lot. At the moment, I'm working on not panicking about my triathlon, which is Saturday, the 8th.

I'm going to put links to some pages I use often, looking for information. Feel free to share your nutrition links, also.

Also want to add that my thought & prayers are with Sen. Kennedy while he undergoes surgery this morning, and with all who are having cancer treatments today. Sending out thoughts for good health.

MSNBC has a Diet & Nutrition page (they also have a Fitness page). They seem sensible - I don't remember seeing anything crazy there: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/...

Being vegetarian, I like sites like Vegsource.com. They have several different bulletin boards, including more than one about weight loss, fitness, and the like (one drawback - pop-up heavy)

I've used this list from About.com of the glycemic indes of foods. Also has links to other articles on the topic. I wish I knew more about this whole idea of the glycemic index, but I do try to eat more foods on the "good" end of this

WebMD has a page from which you can check out a large number of diets:

(I read throught the description of macrobiotics, and the Pritican plan and they agreed with what I know about them)

Also, check your health insurance's web page. Mine has a log-in, and then you can sign up for a nutrition plan, a fitness plan, etc. I can also ask a health expert a question. And they give me points for keeping track of my diet & nutrition, and I can get fitness equipment or gift certificates. So, check if your health insurance does this, too.

Going to have to post & run, I have a doctor appointment. But - y'all please talk amongst yourselves.
